Blocked Drains Thornleigh

Thornleigh grew up around its railway station, and the closest streets, Duffy Avenue among them, still hold the original Federation cottages and 1920s bungalows from that first wave. Comenarra Parkway runs through a later pocket, mostly brick and brick-veneer houses that filled the gaps once the station made the suburb worth living near.

These are quiet residential streets, not a commercial strip, and that shapes how the drains fail. Many runs from the pre-war houses near the station are still earthenware or clay, laid before anyone worried about tree roots finding a joint to crack.

The suburb rides the Hornsby Plateau, and the land underneath it dips and rises rather than sitting flat. Water and grit follow gravity down every fold in that terrain, piling into whichever pipe happens to sit at the bottom, so the older lines down there work harder than the ones built into the newer streets.

Ageing clay pipe on a sloping bushland block is a quiet cause behind call-outs that look, at first, like nothing more than a slow sink. Add mature street trees along the creek gullies at the suburb's edge, and roots find their way into the same cracked joints from the other direction.

Further out toward Comenarra Parkway and the bushland edge, it's almost all detached houses on their own line, so a blockage stays a one-household problem rather than a building-wide one.
